About Physio-Synthesis

Physio-synthesis uses gentle, slow movements to strengthen and align the body from the deepest musculature out. Developed by Dr. Amy Cochran, an osteopath in the 1930's, it continues to be a powerful source for those suffering from structural pain and imbalance.

"Cathlyne teaches a remarkably effective way of engaging intrinsic muscles - which I didn't know I had. Now, after working with her for four sessions, my balance is much better and I am stronger, both in my legs and back.  I believe this is helping my spinal issues, as well, as  my pain is reduced and it feels like my muscles are better supporting my spine."  Linda K.

"Working with Cathlyne has benefitted me tremendously.  I learned the moves and the sequencing of course, and more than that, I learned how to allow a depth of motion that I wouldn’t have been able to discover without her guidance.  Cathlyne’s mastery and her style of teaching has taught me about the patience necessary for my body to move at its own pace.  I used to override slowness and the depth in how I moved, with my mind making my body do what it wanted.  Now I can locate where I need to engage and soften excess tension.  It’s easeful and feels elegant.  In studying Physio-synthesis, I learned to animate the deeper fibers in my structure.  From that place, I observe how this activation creates a melting effect in my body.  The more extrinsic fibers that I had habitually used give up their tension.  Physio-synthesis, and the way that Cathlyne teaches it, is a gift that keeps on giving.  I feel a lot of gratitude that she has showed me a path in which I can help my body heal itself."  Joy C.

"If you have the chance to work with Cathlyne, take it. There's a small handful of people in the world who know a practice on such a level of depth. As a practitioner of Structural Integration, or 'Rolfing', my work will be forever influenced by Physio-synthesis and Cathlyne's way of working with clients. Not even in the series of movements I learned in my studies to become a practitioner was I able to teach my clients how to do their own postural work as effectively as does Physio-synthesis. Specifically, there are techniques that allow the client to relax superficial structures while engaging deeper structures that are harder, nearly impossible, to activate without the careful application of Cathlyne's teachings. Cathlyne is a direct descendant of the lineage and I feel honored to have studied under her." Joe P.
